Italian stocks and bonds gained in early trade on Monday as a low turnout in Italy's general election encouraged investors to bet on a victory of a pro-reform centre-left coalition.Milan's FTSE MIB raced up 2.2 percent to 16,592. Elsewhere in Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was up 0.8 percent at 6,386. The euro was also firm, trading 0.4 percent higher at $1.3268.


Former comedian Beppe Grillo has rejected
claims a large success by his Five Star Movement would make it impossible for
any other party to form a stable government.
"[Italy is} already ungovernable under the current system, made of fake economists and fake politicians," Grillo said after casting his ballot in Sant'Ilario, Genoa.
“Even Huey, Dewey, and Louie Duck are better than theses politicians.”

Italian shares rose sharply and bond yields fell after initial polls from the country's parliamentary elections show a firm lead for the centre-left coalition of Pier Luigi Bersani.
